List of Symposia
The scientific programme of JEMS 2020 was built around plenary and semi-plenary sessions, a set of specialized technical symposia, and a dedicated Special Technical Session. All sessions were delivered online during December 7-11, 2020.
Programme structure
Every session below was scheduled with all times given in CET – Central European Time. Oral contributions were given as a 12-minute live talk followed by 3 minutes of questions, while invited oral presentations were allotted 25 minutes plus 5 minutes of discussion.
The scientific programme of JEMS 2020 was structured around plenary and semi-plenary sessions, a collection of specialized technical symposia, and a dedicated Special Technical Session. This varied format allowed the Joint European Magnetic Symposia to bring together broad perspectives and focused research discussions within a single virtual conference experience. The programme was designed to reflect the interests of participants working across magnetism, while offering spaces for both overview talks and detailed technical exchange during the online event held in December.
All sessions in the JEMS 2020 programme were delivered online, with the schedule expressed in Central European Time to support participation from an international audience. Oral contributions followed a concise format, pairing live presentations with dedicated question periods that encouraged direct interaction between presenters and attendees. Invited speakers received additional time for their talks and discussion, creating a balanced rhythm that combined careful scientific explanation with opportunities for clarification and exchange across the magnetic research community.
The programme page also brings together practical information for participants, including keynote speakers, abstracts, proceedings, and an overview of the session structure. Together, these elements offer a helpful view of how the scientific content was organized and how ideas were communicated throughout the conference. For attendees unable to participate live, the published abstracts and proceedings provide a lasting reference point, extending the reach of the discussions beyond the scheduled virtual sessions and supporting continued engagement with the themes presented.
Moving from an in-person congress in Lisbon to an online format required careful preparation to preserve the sense of scientific community that defines a magnetic symposium. The virtual approach made talks, posters, forums, and direct conversations accessible in a convenient way, while special sessions and mingling spaces offered added opportunities for interaction. This shift demonstrated how a well-structured programme can sustain discussion and collaboration among participants, even when the planned venue, shared facilities, and face-to-face exchanges of the original event had to be adapted.
